As Sniper reached the door of his small cabin, Lekki stepped out of the one beside it. “Can we talk?” she asked softly. He nodded, then put his weapons in his own cabin and closed the door again. He squeezed his tall frame into her cabin and sat in the edge of her bed. “About the other night back on the ship…”

“You mean the highlight of my life so far?” he grinned. “It will be my fondest memory forever. Lekki, I understand you and Cal have…”

“But we don’t,” she interrupted. “Dammit, why does it always have to be so complex?”

“Couldn’t say,” he replied. “But it always is. Are you regretting that night?”

“No,” she replied softly. “Are you?”

“Not a jot,” he replied.

“Sniper…”

“Yes?”

Lekki sighed and sat beside him. “I guess I’m a bit confused here. I believed Cal really wanted me, and I thought I wanted that too.”

“But?”

“I think I took some things for granted, too many things. Some things went unsaid and, well, I’m not so sure about any of it anymore.”

“What are you sure about?”

“I’m sure I want to know where I stand in life,” she sighed, as she leaned against his shoulder. He put a comforting arm around her and she snuggled closer. “I know that rarely ever happens in the real world, but I’d really like to be sure in my personal life. You know what I mean? I want something with no guessing games.”

“I understand,” he replied gently.

“Is that too much to ask?”

“Not from me, it isn’t,” he replied, as he turned and took her by the shoulders to gaze into her eyes. “Lekki, you are the most amazing woman I have ever met. I can’t get enough of you near me. I daydream of you being my companion and us standing together through whatever comes at us.

“I want you, let there be no misunderstanding on that score. However, I know you have stuff to sort out, and I have no expectations here. I want you, but only if that’s what you want too. I won’t try to rush you and I won’t push, but I’ll be here when and if you’re ready to choose me.”

“Thank you, Sniper,” she said as she snugged back into his arms. “I really am confused here. Will you stay with me tonight?”

“Do I get more of that awesome sex?”

She giggled for a moment, then pushed him onto his back and straddled his chest. “Just try to get out of it, mister.”

“Perish the thought.” He grinned as he pulled her down for a passionate kiss.
